Andrew Hochhauser QC

Appointed for a four-year term beginning September 17, 2022.

Andrew Hochhauser is QC at Essex Court Chambers, Deputy High Court Judge, Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, Honorable Advocate to the Dean and Chapter of Westminster Abbey and Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. He specializes in commercial and social litigation.

As well as an LLM from LSE, he holds an MA from the Courtauld Institute of Art, where he studied British Modernism.

He is a former Trustee of the V&A, an Adviser and (as of 2021) the former Treasurer of the Hon Soc of Middle Temple, Chairman of the Samuel Courtauld Trust and ex-officio member of the Board of Trustees of the Courtauld Institute of Art, Chairman of Paintings in hospitals (until January 2023), Governor of the University of the Arts London, Trustee of the National AIDS Trust, V&A Foundation, Aurora Orchestra, Orchestra for the Earth and Director of Ensemble Plus Ultra. He was president of Dance Umbrella from 2007 to 2014, then governor of the Central School of Ballet. He currently sits on the board of Ballet Black.

Remuneration and Governance Code

RCEWA members are not remunerated. This appointment was made in accordance with the Cabinet Office Governance Code for Public Appointments. The appointment process is governed by the Public Appointments Commissioner. Under the Code, any significant political activity undertaken by an appointee within the past five years must be disclosed. This is defined to include holding office, speaking in public, making a recordable donation, or standing for election. Andrew Hochhauser QC reported no activity.
