Erie County Promotes AIDS Awareness with December 1 Memorial Program
The Erie County HIV Task Force and Erie County Health Department (ECDH) will host the 2021 World AIDS Day Memorial Program on December 1.
Various topics such as advances in HIV/AIDS treatment, the history of AIDS and the thoughts of survivors will be discussed by speakers from ECDH, Adagio Health and Northwest Alliance.
“We recognize the 40-year milestone since the first cases of HIV were reported here in the United States,” said Gary Snyder, HIV intervention specialist at ECDH. “As we reflect on how Erie County has been affected and responded to HIV since 1981, this year’s event theme ’40 Years of Progress’ recognizes four decades of achievement in research, advocacy and field work.
“The program agenda will also reflect people who are no longer with us due to HIV/AIDS.”
Erie County residents can submit the names of loved ones for recognition during the program by emailing [email protected] Attendees will be able to view panels of the AIDS Memorial Quilt sponsored by the Northwest Alliance, the world’s largest living memorial recognizing more than 100,000 lives prematurely ended by HIV.
The Erie County HIV Task Force is a collaboration of local organizations and individuals dedicated to educating, supporting and advocating for people living with HIV/AIDS and preventing the spread of infection. He works with ECDH to fight HIV and AIDS by collaborating in a collective culture of compassionate care for people living with HIV and those at risk of contracting the virus.
“Everyone can help prevent the spread of HIV. Talk to your healthcare provider about ways to reduce your risk of getting HIV,” Snyder said.
