Indigenous Peoples’ Schools in Aurora Province Receive Multimedia Teaching Aids


The Central Luzon Department of Science and Technology (DOST-3) provided educational materials to three indigenous peoples (IP) schools in Casiguran town, Aurora province.

Through DOST’s Community Empowerment Through Science and Technology (CEST) program, interactive, internet-free, solar-powered teaching aids were provided to San Ildefonso Elementary School, Dumaguipo Elementary School, and at Calabgan-Ditinagyan Elementary School where about 94 Agta and Dumagat students attend classes.

Interactive Multimedia Teaching Aids (IMTA) is an online learning technology that comes with a television and a mixed box that contains learning algorithms and simulation tools for K-12 learning materials. Kindergarten to Grade 12 in math, science, and English. , Filipino and social studies subjects.

DOST-3 Regional Director Julius Caesar Sicat said Monday that providing the teaching aids will improve the quality of the teaching and learning experience for teachers and students, as they can be used even without an internet connection. or conventional power supply.

“Because the teaching aids are solar-powered, they are particularly suitable for geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas where electricity is absent,” he said in a statement.

Heida Sumawang, Principal of Calabgan-Ditinagyan Elementary School, thanked DOST for the project.

“We are very grateful to be one of the beneficiaries of this technology. Students will surely enjoy the lessons through e-learning and great help for lab activity visualization technique available in IMTA as our school does not have a physical lab. Aurora’s Provincial Director of Science Technology, Maricel Sicat, said IMTA is a technology game-changer that will tackle limited laboratory facilities and academic resources typical of last-mile communities.

“Besides the K-12 compliant curriculum and references that this technology would provide, its interactive media delivery system would help turn the teaching-learning process into a fun and engaging activity that would surely enhance skill acquisition. knowledge among target IPs in GIDA communities. Math and science will no longer be the boring subjects that students used to hate,” she said.

Prior to the distribution of teaching aids, a pretest activity for 4th and 6th graders was conducted.

Sicat said another testing activity will be conducted after the second marking period to determine the impact and effectiveness of IMTA on student performance in math and science. (NAP)
