Latinx AIDS Awareness Day event postponed to Friday, November 5 – Southern Nevada Health District

LAS VEGAS – The Southern Nevada Health District and the Southern Nevada HIV Awareness Coalition will offer rapid HIV testing, information on pre- and post-exposure HIV treatment (PreP / PEP) options, as well as treatment for HIV. Addiction and Resources at the 10th Annual Free Health Show for National Latinx AIDS Awareness Day (NLAAD) on Friday, November 5, from noon to 5 p.m. at Killer Sound, 4884 E. Lake Mead Blvd., Las Vegas , NV 89115. The free event will include music, health vendors and other entertainment.

NLAAD provides an opportunity to encourage members of the Hispanic / Latinx community to get tested and know their status by mobilizing the community to promote effective ways to prevent, treat and stop the spread of HIV.

HIV / AIDS continues to affect communities of color at higher rates. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 27% of new HIV diagnoses in 2018 were Hispanics / Latinos. About one in six Hispanics / Latinxes living with HIV do not know their status, which means they are not receiving HIV care or treatment. They could pass the infection on to others. The Southern Nevada Health District provides HIV / AIDS services that include testing, counseling, case management, outreach efforts, and community referrals. In addition, we offer screenings, treatments, exams, referrals and counseling for STDs. The clinic is open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday to Friday at 280 S. Decatur Blvd. and accepts most insurance. In addition, the Collect2Protect program in the health district offers a home HIV / STD testing kit as part of its efforts to strengthen HIV / STD services in the community.
