Punjab expands HIV / AIDS treatment centers to all districts
LAHORE, December 1 (APP): Punjab’s Minister of Health Dr Yasmin Rashid said on Wednesday that the government of Punjab has established 36 HIV / AIDS centers in all districts of the province.
Speaking as the main guest at the World AIDS Day ceremony organized by the Punjab AIDS Control Program, the Minister of Health said that at these centers, free counseling, diagnosis and treatment would be provided, adding that so far more than 1.85 million people have been tested. for HIV / AIDS.
Dr Yasmin Rashid pledged to achieve the HIV / AIDS elimination goals and said the efforts of all stakeholders should help Punjab stop the transmission of new cases. She said awareness of the disease was key to preventing HIV / AIDS, adding that the spread of the disease could be controlled with preventive measures.
She said that the role of civil society and NGOs was also very important in controlling HIV / AIDS.
She said more than 13,000 patients were receiving treatment for HIV / AIDS at the centers, adding that more than 460,000 TB patients had been tested for HIV / AIDS and more than 50,000 bus and truck drivers had been tested. screened in mobile centers and more than 120,000 prisoners were screened. also.
Punjab Director General of Health Services Dr Haroon Jehangir Khan, SH&ME Additional Secretary Dr Salman Shahid, UNICEF Health Specialist Dr Tahir Manzoor, Walled City Authority officials, social workers, NGOs, transgender people and others were present at the ceremony.
