Noom Mood is an app-based program designed to help you learn to better manage stress and build emotional resilience.

Chances are, you don’t automatically think of your phone as a source oflessstress, since it’s usually the vehicle for breaking news, scrolling social media, and pinging business emails. But, a mental wellness app tries to reshape that feeling.

Noom Mood, a coaching-based mental wellness app, takes the same methodology from its successful weight loss program and applies it to stress management. And it’s really more than just an app – it’s a multi-week program designed with lessons, exercises, and activities to help you learn to defuse stressors and build overall mental and emotional resilience. .

I tried it out to see how it worked, and my biggest finding was that self-sufficiency doesn’t have to be long or complicated, as the 10-minute lessons turned into my own personal stress reliever sidekick. .

The app’s straightforward, straightforward approach to the lessons helped me feel successful and inspired to connect the next day. It helped me create daily structure without feeling overwhelmed (like reading for just five minutes) and held my attention with fun, non-judgmental prompts like quizzes and activities (mood logs and more). The first thing I learned in the program was how to recognize my stressors, and that was the basis for the rest of my basic stress management work. By actively recognizing how and why I felt in a specific way, I was able to examine a root cause with greater clarity and self-compassion.

We all lead busy, fulfilling lives. Using this wellness based app as one of my personal care aids was a way to get more time into my day without changing my routine or schedule.

Noom Mood can help us “focus on self-care in a small way that leads to a change in the way you feel,” Findley adds. Instead of taking two hours to calm my running thoughts, accessing the app for a five-minute lesson, logging a daily activity (like a gratitude list in my journal), or replying to a message from my Noom Mood Personal Coach was quick and easy to complete. And that made me want to continue more.

When I am stressed, it is sometimes difficult for me to see a different solution or point of view. But, the daily lessons have helped me learn to reframe my position with a set of tactics including taking breaks, anchoring myself and checking in with my coach to relay my experiences or direct questions. “Being able to reframe a stressful experience and rely on gratitude can change the mood for the moment or even for the day,” says Findley.

She came up with a relevant storyline that helped me understand the power to change my mindset: imagine you’re late for work and on your commute there’s an accident that will cause you even later. It sounds rather stressful and tense, doesn’t it? “You could see this as a situation that allowed you to potentially avoid being involved in the crash,” Findley said. “Seeing the positive in a stressful situation can give you a moment to breathe and move into a state of gratitude.”

Like any wellness regimen, having a sense of structure allowed me to actually see the progress I was making, big and small. Noticing my emotions in the moment meant I was adjusting to triggers and working on their root causes.

When I ran into traffic on my way to a friend’s house, I didn’t immediately engage in negative self-talk, but instead used some box breathing techniques.

Another change that has benefited my mental well-being? One recent morning, when my phone’s alarm went off at 7:30 a.m., instead of scrolling through my Instagram feed, I opened Noom Mood and finished a lesson – without even realizing it. When I noticed this increase, I felt a deeper sense of pride in myself and in my ability to adopt stress-relieving tactics.

And, Findley agrees: “Having an automatic response to a stressor relieves the general feeling of stress.” So now I don’t have to stress about being stressed anymore because my education in Noom Mood helps me feel capable of handling whatever the day throws at me. Pretty big payoff for just 10 minutes a day, if you ask me.
