Uttarakhand to use ICTC vans for AIDS awareness campaign
DEHRADUN: The Uttarakhand State Department of Health will soon include Integrated Counseling and Testing Center (ICTC) mobile vans which will be deployed for the ongoing HIV/AIDS awareness campaign across the state.
“The ICTC vans will be used for screening, sensitization and counseling of HIV-positive patients. Various programs are being carried out in the state through the Uttarakhand AIDS Control Committee,” said Dhan Singh Rawat.
The campaign will particularly focus on slums, prisons and industrial areas in the hill state.
Workers in industrial units, migrants living in remote areas, groups with high-risk behavior, drivers on remote roads and prisoners held in slums will all be screened and counseled through special campaigns.
These vans will have consultants, lab technicians, attendants and drivers traveling to different districts of the state to educate people about HIV/AIDS prevention in addition to examining suspected patients.
This campaign is carried out under the supervision of the Uttarakhand State AIDS Control Committee in collaboration with various organizations, during which more than 6,000 people have already been screened and counseled across the state.
