Vedanta Ltd conducts HIV / AIDS awareness campaign in Jharsuguda

Aluminum giant Vedanta Ltd in Jharsugda in Odisha ran a week-long campaign to raise awareness about HIV / AIDS (the virus that affects the body’s immune system and can be transmitted through contact with blood, semen or infected vaginal secretions).

The campaign targeted more than 8,000 people, including employees, partner organizations, truckers, students, the community and city residents.

Activities kicked off on World AIDS Day with a showcase of solidarity as employee volunteers led by the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) team distributed red ribbons and information material in the premises of the steelworks.

The volunteers then expanded campaign activities to include community members, students, truckers and residents of nearly 24 villages in Jharsuguda.

The awareness campaign consisted of distributing informational material such as leaflets and brochures aimed at educating people about the syndrome. Awareness sessions and street theater performances were also part of the campaign in collaboration with the Orissa State AIDS Control Society (OSACS) and the Wockhardt Foundation, outlining this year’s theme “Ending the HIV Epidemic. / AIDS, community by community ”initiated by OSACS.

During the week, various activities and awareness sessions were carried out in several colleges to raise awareness among young people.

“Our CSR department has partnered with the Mirror Theater Group to raise awareness of HIV / AIDS prevention through street plays at several locations in the factory premises, the village of Bhurkamunda, Sarbahal, etc. company, according to IndiaCSR.

“We are the first state organization to roll out an employer-led HIV / AIDS awareness and prevention project – Jagruti in partnership with OSACS, which was also greatly appreciated by NACO. As a company, we are committed to providing sustainable services and responsible growth, transforming the lives of the communities around us for the better. We are driven by a culture of safety, with an emphasis on prevention first and our CSR efforts are aligned with the same, ”said CN Singh, CEO of Vedanta Ltd.
