In collaboration with the National Institute for Comprehensive Early Childhood Care (INAIPI, for its Spanish acronym), WFP organized workshops to celebrate World Breastfeeding Week, a global campaign that aims to raise public awareness and to support breastfeeding. WFP participated in the launching event of a project to promote breastfeeding and breast milk banks and, during a workshop on food security, provided training to 162 health nutrition workers from INAIPI on food quality and safety.
WFP continues to support social protection programs and engage with key national stakeholders. WFP met with the National Institute of Social Registry and the National Council for HIV and AIDS, a strategic multisectoral body that coordinates the national response to HIV/AIDS. The meeting aimed to discuss the registration of 20,000 people living with HIV in social protection programmes. In addition, WFP and Supérate, a centralized social assistance program that facilitates the transition of beneficiaries to the labor market, shared information on the status of their current activities and discussed future collaborations.
WFP provided capacity building training for first responders as part of a regional initiative on the use of unmanned aircraft systems, more commonly known as drones, for risk management and emergency response . The training included a course for professional drone pilots, an advanced course in photogrammetry and a specialized course on the use of drones in emergencies.
WFP and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) met to share their country’s strategic objectives and discuss the development of a collaborative project on climate actions.
To make its supply chain more efficient, WFP has entered into discussions with DP World, one of the world’s leading port operators, to explore the use of the Caucedo Logistics Hub, one of the main logistics hubs in the interior of a port facility in the region.
WFP participated in the Ministry of Health event “Healthy Route: Change Your Lifestyle” in San Francisco de Macorís. WFP carried out different activities to promote varied diets and healthy lifestyles, such as nutritious food quizzes, healthy weight awareness and fortified rice tasting.
As coordinator of the United Nations emergency team, WFP facilitated the inter-agency contingency planning workshop for the cyclone season.
